Creating a Low Power & Long Range IoT Network from Scratch

June 18, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Does your IoT solution span large distances? Do you prefer to own and manage the network?

Does your solution rely upon battery powered devices? If you answered yes to any of these questions, be sure to attend this informative session about Low Power and Long Range Wide Area Networks (LPWAN). First, we’ll explore the landscape of network options for IoT solutions and examine the advantages and disadvantages of each. We’ll examine the main concepts of LoRa and Lora WAN and introduce you to the concept of a link budget and how LoRaWAN shines above all else for certain use cases. We’ll explore the three device classes specified by the LoRaWAN protocol and how each is used optimally for a different use case and we will touch, connect and interact with real LoRa WAN nodes and gateways. We’ll then learn about radio propagation and how it affects distribution and placement of LoRaWAN gateways as well as LoRaWAn Nodes and review the rules and regulations that you must adhere to in order to take advantage of this license free Radio Frequency band. We’ll go through the process of christening the Chicago Connectory’s LoRaWAN gateway and connect it to The Things Network so that you can start using it to build, test and deploy your own Low Power Long Range IoT Solutions.
